Fabulous city paddling, but only in the right conditions

In light winds and minimal/no southerly swell, Lyall Bay is a lovely mellow place to explore on a paddleboard. Plenty of parking along the promenade. Fun being so close to the airport! Just be aware that it's also Wellington's premier surf spot, and can be absolutely huge in southerly swells. Southerly winds are offshore, and should be treated with respect.
